This morning, I booted up my laptop and walked away while waiting for it to load. When I came back, I saw that it had launched a repair. An error report read that there wasa problem caused by "Sigmatel C-Major audio driver. To solve this problem, go online to your computer manufacturer's website and search for Sigmatel C-Major audio driver updates.
Has anyone else had this problem? If so, could someone please provide me with a link to which update I'm supposed to download? I searched and happened upon two, of which I'm not sure which to download, as well as a topic in the forums, where the author said that their audio had stopped working altogether following installation my audio works just fine right now. I don't know if it is in the right place either. I have'nt had any questions answered I don't like this forum as well as the old one Anyway, I started getting that fixit ticket when I boot up too That is why I am here.
I thought it would take me to the driver downloads That's assuming it is Vista 64bit you're referring to of course, and not XP 64bit? I have contacted Dell and a tech went on and said they fixed my problem but low and behold it is still there!!! Then I was told to fix it totally I would have to pay Hello, this laptop is only 2 months old!!!!!!!!!!! I am VERY dissatisfied with this dell laptop we bought just 2 months ago!!!!!!!!!!
I will not reccommend it to anyone nor will I ever trust DELLs tech support to know what they are doing! Mine is also crashing fairly often. I have the correct driver version installed according to the Dell Drivers and Downloads page.
So if I go to Dell. And that is the one that is crashing. Does anyone have any other ideas. I considered uninstalling it and just letting Windows find a driver for it. I read in another forum that that seems to work ok, if not better. Ok, so I uninstalled the Sigmatel driver and just let windows find a driver when I restarted. It worked. It found a driver and I had sound. But unfortunately, one of my two output jacks didn't work.
The version it gave me is 6. But I have seen talk of newer A06 versions. It found me these drivers. Despite those being A06 - against Dell's A The A06 drivers are v6. Dell's A03 drivers are v6. Although it's only recommended you use drivers provided by Dell themselves, there's no reason why they wouldn't work? That's assuming you don't get an advisory that the drivers you're about to install A06 , are older than the ones currently installed A03 - based on what I've said above?
I downloaded and installed the A06 driver. My computer accepted it and asked ot restart the computer. I let it, and when it started back up, I had no sound So I rolled back the driver but unfortunately it rolled back to the default windows audio driver which doesn't include support for the two headphone jacks.
So I am reinstalling the A03 driver. On a related note. I have been having a problem where my Vista 64 machine hangs on shutdown. Basically at shutdown it goes through all the steps, shuts down services, but when it gets to the "Shutting Down" screen the progress circle stops and the computer hangs. The only way to get it to shutdown from there is to do a hard shut down by holding in the power button.
